Make Me Blush | Collection Part 1: Drugstore

August 11, 2013 0
Make Me Blush | Collection Part 1: Drugstore
So I've done my lipstick collection and that was over 5 parts sorted by their colours, now I'm doing my blush collection. I was actually going to do my nail polish collection first but that one will probably take the longest so I might leave that one till last. Not that I plan on doing it on absolutely every type of product you can have, I want to do the ones that I seem to collect haha such as lipstick, blush, nail polish, perfume & maybe eyeliners, but we'll see as I go along.

I have decided to break this up into 2 parts, Drugstore & High End. I definitely have a lot more drugstore blushes as obviously they are cheaper so I don't feel as bad to have multiple colours by the same brands. It would be way to hard to go by colour, and I was going to go by brand but since I only have a few of some brands & more of the others I thought it would be easier to group like this.
Some of the swatch pictures have been enhanced the tiniest bit with contrast as my camera washed out the colour, and the top pictures are natural light & the bottom are with flash.

Milani & Jordana

 L-R: Fantasico Mauve {satin}, Coralina {shimmer}, Dolce Pink {shimmer}, Luminoso {shimmery/satin}.

Jordana blushes can also be purchased from Cherry Culture & Beauty Joint and they have the hugest range. I am really happy with my colour selection although Redwood is the least used as it is easy to go overboard and look tooo flushed. They are so pigmented & are only $2.50!!!
 L-R: Redwood {matte}, A Touch Of Pink {matte}, Coral Sandy Beach {shimmer}.
 E.L.F
E.L.F can be bought from Beauty Joint & IKatehouse (only some products). I much prefer their studio line from their $1 one (more $ when bought in Aus, big surprise there!). I do not use their powder blushes too frequently but they're pigmented for $4 (note the similarities in packaging to NARS) but love the HD Blush as a base or on it's own. The shimmering facial whips' are ok but a bit too shimmery for my tastes, especially Golden Peach which I thought was going to be more of a highlighter colour but I find it too bronzy to wear as a blush or highlighter. For $1 who cares I'm sure friends or family wouldn't mind it!

L-R: Pink Passion {glitter}, Peachykeen {matte}, Headliner {liquid, matte}, Pink Lemonade, Golden Peach {disco-ball-like shimmer}

Nyx
Nyx is the first brand I started collecting when I was getting into makeup because I found a really good seller on Ebay who sells them in "bulk" so I could get multiple colours for a really good price. Has any body depotted their Nyx blushes or eyeshadows, I haven't depotted anything before and want to know if it's easy with these!
The cream blushes look nasty so sorry about that!
Their powder blushes can bit a hit or miss but I find these ones quite pigmented, especially with Pinky & Spice so you may want to have a lighter hand especially with such a bright pink! Angel would be a perfect summery colour & Peach is a misleading name as it pulls more baby pink than peach. They are $6 on Cherry Culture but if you want to get a few definitely look at the eBay seller I linked above.
 L-R: Angel {shimmer},Peach {satin}, Pinky {satin}, Spice {satin}
Nyx's Rouge Cream blushes ($6 on Cherry Culture) are perfect as a base for other blushes but they go not last well on their own, but you can just apply translucent powder if you are happy with their colour. I used to use Natural & Glow with a stippling brush which made the product in the pan look horrible but now I prefer my fingers. I need to use Hot Pink & Orange more!! Except you need an extremely light hand! I also love the Stick blushes as bases but same goes as the cream blushes.
L-R: Natural, Glow, Hot Pink, Orange {all creme}, Orchid & Tulip {stick}

Bourjois & Assorted

I've found that after a few uses with the Bourjois blushes they can become dry & pigmented, so I have to scrape the top of occasionally as it develops a film on top. I had stopped using my older ones for a while because of this & found when I had gotten rid of that film they were pigmented again! They also have a lovely rose smell. The scrapping doesn't bother me as they will last forever!
I apologize that Bourjois may not be available to you but there are plenty of substitutions out there!
The Essence mousse blush from their Ballerina Backstage collection was LE & it's not something I reach for too often as it is quite matte so it would be good for oily skin, but if I do wear it I pair it with MAC's Pink Swoon.
I've posted about the L.A Girl Blushes before & don't have anything new to say, I think I will be finding a new home for them as I have similar colours already and they are nothing too special.
 L-R: Bourjois 16 Rose Coup De Foudre {Shimmer}, 34 Rose D'or {shimmer}, 54 Rose Frisson {satin}, Essence Prima Ballerina {mousse}, LA Girl Just Pinched {matte}, LA Girl Nectar {satin}

I'm not sure if you can get this Revlon blush from I believe their A Floral Affair collection ( probably discontinued years ago) but I had found this in a dump bin & it was one of the first blushes I had so as you can see I don't use it enough.
This Fyrinnae blush is a loose powder and because it is such an extremely bright red colour it is so hard to use without applying waay too much! I dip my brush in it a little bit and tap off the excess & also onto my hand and it is still sometimes too bright, so for this reason I haven't given it enough love for the couple of years that I've had it, but don't want to throw it out!
L-R: Revlon Hushed blush in A Floral Affair (Peach side, pink, & highlighter side all swatched separately, and then together although I would only use the highlighter separately) {Shimmer}, Fyriannae Powder blush in Intrigue (Not on their website anymore, Sorry!!!) {matte}

Alrighty so that ended up being a bit more of a review then anticipated, but that's never a bad thing, right? Sorry that there is way to much to read but I appreciate if you just look at the swatches too :)
So I have waay too many blushes that are similar & I clearly don't really need any more but it's going to be hard to downsize. I can't pick any fave blushes but my fave formulas would have to be with the Milani Baked blushes and the Nyx powder, cream & stick blushes.

I will be posting my High end blush collection soon so stay tuned!

Whats your favourite drugstore brand for blushes?

Youtube Inspiration #2 | Lilpumpkinpie05 Tropical Paradise Eyes

Youtube Inspiration #2 | Lilpumpkinpie05 Tropical Paradise Eyes
Lilpumpkinpie05 or Jackie O, aka Makeup Game On Point on facebook is an amazing MUA on youtube with an awesome, fun personality  and she makes you feel a part of her tutorials. I've recently mentioned her in another recent look but I wanted to do another one specifically for this series.
She does some amazing makeup looks but I have recently recreated her Tropical Paradise eye look, which is actually my second attempt since my first one just came out as my same old peacock eyes as I forgot exactly what she did so it turned out the same as my others.

Face | I am still using my Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation with my Rimmel Stay Matte powder, and I contoured with my Nars Laguna Bronzer & highlighted with MAC's Cream Colour Base in Pearl & MAC Lightscapade. For blush I wore Bourjois 16 Rose blusher over Nyx's Stick blush in Tulip.

Eyes | After priming I used Maybelline's Colour Tattoo in Tenacious Teal all over the lid & along the lower lash line. Over that I used Sugarpill's Loose Pigment in Darling on 3/4 on the eyelid with a damp brush and then I went in with Inglot AMC 68 on the other 1/4 of the lid staying underneath the crease. To define the crease I mixed Inglot's 439 with a darker purple from the Bh Cosmetics Day & Night palette and also applied it on the lower lash line and blended out the crease with a nude & a hot pink from the D&N palette as well. In the inner corner I applied a light green eyeshadow pigment that I bought from eBay & highlighted the brow bone. And then I finally lined my eyes with Maybelline Master Precise eyeliner & a Bourjois Kohl & Contour eye pencil in the waterline, and finished with mascara.
Lips |Nyx lip liner in Mauve, MAC Myth lipstick with Nyx butter gloss in Apple Strudel.

Overall I like how mine turned out but it's obviously not exactly the same, I wish the green was a bit brighter and used a matte purple in the crease with a more defined line that would have been more like hers.

My inspiration!
Anyway I hope you like this look and that you go and have a look at her videos.... No affiliation but I hope y'all go to check out her talent if you haven't already!

Bourjois Volume Fast & Perfect Rotating Mascara

June 11, 2013 0
Bourjois Volume Fast & Perfect Rotating Mascara
If you're like me & like to layer mascaras with multiple coats it can take a good couple of minutes to complete the finishing touches of your eye makeup.
The Bourjois Volume Fast & Perfect Rotating Mascara claims to take only 30 seconds for "Instant & even 360 degrees lash coverage."

There are only a coupe of rotating mascara brushes on the market so the brush of this Bourjois mascara is the main selling point of this product. It rotates clockwise or anti clockwise to cover the eyelashes with a faster application. Depending on the way you hold the wand, you flick the switch either upwards or downwards to get right into the roots of the lashes, which is where you want to focus the mascara for volume, and pull it through the ends for length. I then flick the switch the opposite way and let it glide over the top of my eyelashes.
When I apply mascara I swap the way I hold it in my hand from one eye to the other and as I do that I have to change the direction of the brush otherwise it will go the opposite way I want it to. A trick with the bottom eyelashes is to hold the brush underneath the lashes and rotate the brush so it is pushing away from them. However if you prefer only slightly defined lower lashes I would advise to use a different mascara as the rotary brush gives a more dramatic effect.
Packaging & Brush: This is actually quite heavy due to the battery that sits in a cap at the very top of the wand. It makes the top half a lot longer than the bottom half which feels weird to hold at first. As you can see it is a bristle brush which some people prefer over plastic combs. It doesn't taper off and it is a medium size so you can use it for medium-long eyelashes but I don't think it would be good for short eyelashes as you would probably get it all over your eyelids if you're not careful.
Formula: I've found the formula to be quite wet so I need to brush off the excess mascara on the inside of the tube to avoid clumping which is quite hard to avoid if you're not careful. It can be hard
to avoid the eyelids as well but it is usually disguised by my eyeliner so it's not that bad to me. My eyelashes still feel soft to the touch & not crunchy like some mascaras do.
As for wear, I do not find it flaking off throughout the day.

Road Test
Sorry for these unflattering close up pictures of my eyeball & unfilled eyebrows & discolouration haha.
 Before, and then curled.
Before & after, lashes from non existent to well defined & very black. This is with two coats on the upper lashes & one coat on the bottom.

Overall I really like this mascara in terms for an easy application with the rotating brush, it makes getting more dramatic lashes so much easier without needing to use falsies all the time!
I was lucky to buy this on sale for $10 as it retails for $26 (in Priceline) but if you were wanting to spend extra money on a good mascara I would recommend this one!

Have you tried this mascara or any other rotating mascara brushes?

Bourjois Products // Swatches // Bronzer, Blush, Healthy Mix & More

Bourjois Products // Swatches // Bronzer, Blush, Healthy Mix & More
These are just some swatches, comparisons & opinions on the Bourjois products I hauled recently, shown here.
I didn't include the mascara in this post as I haven't opened it yet.
Bourjois Blusher #54 Rose Frisson

If you have tried any of the Bourjois blushers you will notice a beautiful rose scent when you open it. Out of the 3 Bourjois blushers I own, this one has the strongest smell but it doesn't bother me. This blush is highly pigmented (shown below, swatched directly from the pot) & I would describe it as a satin finish, as there is no obvious shimmer but it is not matte.

 Delice de Soleil bronzing powder

The Delice de Soleil bronzing powder is meant to give a 'delicious natural & radiant tan'. I find the pigmentation is not the best, it took a few swipes for it to show up on my bare arm. It is mainly matte but it does have a few shimmer particles. Originally I wanted the chocolate bronzer but I have not been able to find it online! So I settled for this, which will be my all over bronzer underneath Nars Laguna. The packaging is quite bulky as it includes a brush which is only good to get a really nice definition underneath the cheekbone. The best thing about the packaging is the huge mirror that swivels 180 degrees. Perfect for checking your application in different angles.
Delice De Soleil, 54 Rose Frisson
Levres Contour Lipliner #11
The Levres Contour lip liner colour I got was in number 11, a beautifully pigmented neutral shade. I love this under MLBB creamy mauves & pinks, or to outline my lips on their own for them to appear bigger. I recommend this pencil for sure!

Healthy Mix Foundation & Concealer
I've also been testing out the Healthy mix foundation & concealer own it's own and by mixing it with other products. From what I've used, I really like these products! The foundation as a similar finish & coverage to my Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation, but the shade I bought (53) was more of a yellow tone. It actually blends quite well into my skin, though so I'm starting to think I'm neutral-toned.
The concealer in shade 52 is slightly too light to cover blemishes so I've been using it as a under eye concealer with my Maybelline Age Rewind when I want more coverage. It doesn't have a highlighting effect but it is slightly apricot toned which is good for dark circles.
Here I am wearing the foundation on it's own with nothing else.

The concealer on the my right eye only. I think it has made a huge difference! I usually would have a lilac concealer first, then my foundation (which I don't aim to cover under my eyes but a little bit usually always ends up there) and then my concealer. But today it's just the foundation & concealer. I apply directly from the tube under my eye & blend with my fingers to warm it up, a wedge sponge & my Sigma f82 Round Kabuki brush.

So, that's basically the products, I am happy with them all except with the pigmentation of the bronzer. I cannot wait to try the rotating mascara!

Have you tried any Bourjois products, and what are your faves?
xx

Oh & you have probably noticed that I changed my blog, I made it look more simpler & cleaner, what do you think? Or is it too boring? I like that it doesn't look as "busy" and my header fits in to the background, haha.

Have an amazing weekend!

Collective haul! Cherryculture, Beautyjoint, China Glaze & More.

February 17, 2013 0
Collective haul! Cherryculture, Beautyjoint, China Glaze & More.
I've been waiting a while to receive all my packages that I ordered around the same time so I could put them into a collective haul-style post this time. I've been using some of the products in my FOTD's so I'm happy I can finally show you properly, now!

Cherry Culture
Nyx Eye Shadow Base in White, Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Antwerp
Nyx Black Label Lipstick in Nude
La Splash Glitter Splash (names below)
Cherryculture.com has regular specials & I'm pretty sure I got these Nyx products between 15-25% off when they are a good price anyway. The glitters were $5.99 each, and they have the biggest range! I can definitely recommend these glitters, and I've used them in a couple of looks and you can see how glitter can also be wearable but then also dramatic (obviously!! It's all up to you how it turns out ;)). I found this website has extremely quick shipping as I ordered these not long before beauty joint but I got them 2 weeks before!
 Giveaway Prize
Technically not a haul but new products none the less, I was so excited to win crosswiredreamers.blogspot.com giveaway!! I never expected to win it when I entered so thank you so much girls! I got the Stila In The Light palette, Face of Australia Sheer Gloss Lip Crayons (funnily enough I had these in my giveaway but never actually tried them :P) & 2 O.P.I glitter nail polishes in Gettin' Miss Piggy with it & Fresh Frog of Bel Air from the muppets collection.

Ozsale
Ozsale.com had another special on China Glaze so I bought 2 of them to replace the ones I never received/ broke in the mail. I replaced skyscraper with Dorothy Who, a similar looking colour that is so gorgeous! As for the 2 light pink's, I was looking at swatches before hand and one looked like a light flesh toned nude colour and the other a baby pink, but both turned out to be like a french pink!!! With one being a tiny bit darker. Oh well, I will find out which one I like more and give the other away.
L-R: Patent Leather Top Coat, Dorothy Who, Diva Bride, Innocence.

Beauty Joint
I didn't buy any necessities from beautyjoint.com but some pretties, that I had to have.
Top- Jordana Glitters Nail Polish in City Lights, China Glaze Shocking Pink, ELF HD Blush in Headliner, Nyx Stick Blush in Orchid.
Bottom- Wet n Wild Coloricon in Glamrock, Wet n Wild palette in Vanity, ELF Lip primer & plumper, Nyx Glam Gloss in Aqua Luxe, Wet n Wild Mega Last l/s in Dollhouse Pink.
I can't wait to show you swatches of the polishes, I am currently wearing shocking pink- OMG. Both blushes are so pretty, I have been wanting Orchid for ages! I had to buy the WNW eyeshadows after seeing shaaanxo with them, I thought the ELF lip primer would be nice to see how it goes, and the other two looked too pretty to pass up!

Ozsale
Ozsale also had Bourjois on sale with almost everything at $10 a pop so I got the Healthy Mix concealer (I got this in 52 and it's a tiny bit too light but perfect for under the eyes), the Delice de Soleil Bronzing powder (I wanted the chocolate one but they didn't have it), Levres Contour lip liner in number 11, the Healthy Mix foundation in 53 (I looked it up in the foundation matrix because I didn't know which one to get, this is a good match except maybe a tiny bit too yellow but it's not too noticeable since I'm pretty sure I have neutral colouring), The Volume Fast & Perfect rotating mascara (Can't wait to try this but it is in line so it wont be for ages) and a blush in 54 Rose Frisson.

So that's pretty much all the cosmetics I've received recently and I'm not expecting anymore at the moment except for a clothing & a jewelery order.
Expect a bunch of reviews/ swatches and other posts in the upcoming future about these products, but please let me know if there's anything specifically that you want to see!

xx Ashii
