Stila After Glow Lip Colours | Review & Swatches

July 11, 2013 0
Stila After Glow Lip Colours | Review & Swatches
This post is as I promised in my Stila Haul Post  I wanted to do the review before I go away especially as they are limited edition & I have no idea how long they will be around for!

The Stila After Glow Lip Colours are not really lipsticks, not really lip stains but like a jumbo lip pencil with a balmy, lipstick-type texture. Something that makes them different to other lip products are that they glow in UV light, which is what suckered me into them in the first place. Although I don't go clubbing as often as I used to, this would make for a nice surprise once the UV lights go on!

I was going to have to wait to take a pic under black light but then I remembered that I had a UV light that was in an "invisible pen set" many years ago so I could test it out sooner rather than later.
Packaging: Black chubby stick-like wind-able pencils, with writing on tube corresponding to the colour of the lipstick that also glows.
Texture: They apply smoothly like a lip pencil & are very moisturizing. On application they start off sheer so you could leave it like that or you can build up the colour for a brighter look.
Colours: Electric Pink is basically that, a bright barbie pink & Festive Fuchsia is a gorgeous fuchsia (surprisingly). The other colours available are Party Pink, Rave Red, Tangerine Dream & Vivid Violet (check out Pang's blog to see her swatch of VV)
Longevity: Without eating I've found it to last around 4 hours but as it fades it leaves a stain behind. When eating & drinking it comes off almost straight away, but if you're careful & you use a straw it should be ok.
Electric Pink, Festive Fuchsia
Electric Pink Lip Swatch & Comparison
Electric Pink in normal light, with UV light.
I've found a couple of similar looks in my collection to see how the colours would compare, However the formulas are completely different, the Stila Lip Colour is hydrating & glossy where the other two are matte & drying.
Stila Electric Fuchsia, MAC Candy Yum Yum, Sleek Amped
Festive Fuchsia Lip Swatch & Comparison
Festive Fuchsia natural light, under UV light
Stila Festive Fuchsia, Revlon Fuchsia, Sleek Pinkini
The Revlon & Stila texture & colours are very similar, Pinkini is too much of a hot pink but I didn't think they would be an exact match anyway.

Overall I'm really loving the feel of the Stila After Glow Lip Colours, I think it's ingenious that they glow under UV Light (obviously all over, unlike mine where I only had a tiny light) which goes with the Festival theme, and I can't wait to wear them out to a club, but I love that they are so wearable for daytime, too.

These are limited edition so if you were wanting to get your hands on them you can buy in store or online from Sephora (only has 4 shades but includes these two), online from Beauty Bay where the prices range around $18 or directly from Stila. At time of writing Beauty Bay has the most colours available.

Would you ever try out the UV aspect of these lip colours or prefer to wear them normally?

Stila Festival Of Colour | Haul

July 06, 2013 0
Stila Festival Of Colour | Haul
So I stated in my July wishlist that I had cut down on my spending, and I think I've been pretty good with it! It feels like forever since I've bought any new products, but when I heard about the Stila Festival Of Colour collection, I knew I had to get in fast.

The main reason I wanted to buy from this collection were the Stila After Glow Lip Colours. I was going to wait until my holiday until I found out that they were limited edition. It was something I didn't want to miss out on, even if they were still available I mightn't be able to get the colours I wanted, so of course when Beauty Bay had them in stock I placed an order. Unfortunately a few other LE items caught my eye too!

Countless Colour Pigments in Lyric, Smudgestick in Turquoise, After Glow Lip Colours in Electric Pink & Festive Fuchsia
So the main reason why I wanted the After Glow Lip colours so badly are because they glow in UV light which I can picture would be a shock to see someone with glowing lips in a nightclub (I've had that happen with my neon nail polishes before haha.) They also make great day colours so they look great on their so if clubbing is not your scene you may still be interesting in these. Keep an eye out for a review!
I was also preparing myself for summer by getting the smudge stick in Turquoise which is a LE colour
& a Countless Colour Pigment in Lyric which Dawn pointed it out as a blush which I didn't think about, but it makes for a lovely eyeshadow that you can use the colours separately or mix together.

A few quick swatches, sorry about the different lighting but I will have separate posts with proper swatches.
Shipping with Beauty Bay is free, but if you spend an extra $2.20 you get a sample & your package is meant to leave the warehouse faster. It still took 3 weeks to arrive, but I got some pretty decent samples!
I've never tried the Urban Decay Primer Potion, only Too Faced Shadow Insurance, so I was thrilled to have a sample size! I also got a Sebastian Colour Ignite shampoo sample which is perfect because I've been using one of their conditioners & colour protection shampoos are the type that I use, so it ended up being perfect for me.

What products from Stila do you like? Do you think you will pick up any of these products?
Check out these products & more from Beauty Bay

Lip Inventory 5: Mauves, Berry & Wine

May 27, 2013 0
Lip Inventory 5: Mauves, Berry & Wine
I am slowly getting through my lipstick collection!! I wish I had posted brand by brand but I've almost finished it so there's no point in starting again. Also as I have bought many new lip products since I've started some aren't included in the older ones. And I'm planning to buy many more in a few months time ;)
I also timed this badly as Autumn is just about finished here in the Southern Hemisphere, but hope it will be helpful to others later in the year!

Firstly, the colours I'm describing can get a bit too confusing between each other so I hope this helps a bit to those who are wondering about the differences.
Mauve is a pale lavender-lilac colour. I think of it as a very My Lips But Better (MLBB) colour as it is fairly close to my natural lip colour.
Berry colours are closer to claret, burgundy or deep purple tones, as obviously berries come in a lot of different colours, these are the hues I am referring to.
Wine is a dark shade of red,as I'm sure you would probably be aware of.
These are just my views on these colours, I hope it makes sense! The deeper colours are very suited to Autumn & Winter, but the lighter ones can be used all year around because they go with lighter eye looks as well.

Mauve
L-R: Nyx round lipstick in Tea Rose, Bloom Honeysuckle, Australis Colour Inject lipstick in Samba, Boogie Woogie

Wow, these are all almost identical! If I had to downsize I would probably keep Honeysuckle (I decided I need to wear it more now!) & maybe Samba, I can't choose between the two Australis colours.

Tea Rose has a very creamy, satin finish, and is a mid toned pinky mauve. It is not very long lasting but easy to apply. Honeysuckle is a soft pink leaning towards mauve and has a non-drying matte finish. It smells similar to MAC's lipsticks. Samba is another muted pink colour with mauve undertones & has a moisturizing satin finish, Boogie Woogie is almost the same as Samba except slightly darker on my lips.
I'm thinking maybe the pigment in my lips (although I don't have much) brings out the mauve tones of all of these lipsticks. Anyway, if you love understated, neutral lips I'm sure any of these colours would be suited to you!

Berry & Wines
L-R BYS Longwear lipstick Lip Service, Maybelline Color Sensational Party Pink , Milani Berry Rich, Kate by Rimmel 09, Bite Beauty Rhone, MAC Rebel.

Lip Service is a purple toned wine colour, similar to Party Pink (pink but, seriously?) which is a darker berry colour with a magenta tinge.  Berry Rich is a richer red wine colour, Kate '09' is deeper & darker than Berry Rich & with both wine & berry tones, Rhone is very similar to Kate 09 except slightly more coloured & Rebel is a slightly aubergine, very dark berry colour which can come off a bit magenta some times.
I'm sure I could easily downsize as a few of these are very similar, I'd probably keep Party Pink, Berry Rich, Rhone & Rebel although I do like the other two colours they are just too similar.

Let me know what your favourite deeper colours are!
I'm going to move onto another part of my collection soon so please stay tuned to find out what that will be!

Bite Beauty Cosmetics// Lip Products Review & Swatches

Bite Beauty Cosmetics// Lip Products Review & Swatches
Bite Beauty is a brand that is featured fairly frequently on Ozsale, and while I was on my "spending ban", which is now a lot more stricter since it is a bit more closer to my big holiday, I saw it on there and thought I would try something from a new brand.

Description from their website-
"Bite Beauty is an all-natural lip care company operating out of downtown Toronto. Our mission is to create lipstick that is high performance and healthy enough to eat for women everywhere."
Bite Beauty is entirely focused on lip products, with their Luminous Cream Lipstick, High Pigment Pencils, Cinnamon Lip Oil, Pastille Matte Crèmes, Lush Lip Tints & more, so I would imagine they would be focused on creating high quality products.

The two products I bought were the Luminous Creme lipstick in the colour Rhone & a High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate. They have a high end feel with the rubber-textured packaging reminiscent of NARS. The High Pigment Pencil especially reminds me of the Velvet lip pencils, although I haven't tried or seen them in person.
I've used these a couple of times as you can see the bullets aren't as precise as they would have been.
Luminous Creme Lipstick
"These unbelievably smooth lipsticks deliver lush, long-lasting colour and moisture-rich coverage in an incredibly inviting palette of 13 alluring shades ranging from modern nudes to provocative plums. Organic fruit butters create a creamy texture that conditions and nourishes lips with every use, while antioxidant-rich Resveratrol fights free radicals and helps reduce the appearance of lines. Each lipstick contains the amount of resveratrol found in five glasses of red wine. Bite Beauty create their products with food grade ingredients for beauty that’s better for you. They are free from parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals or phthalates."
Borrowed from Kleinsperfumery

You would be able to see from these two lip products that I have been in the mood for red/ burgundy lips recently. This is, as the name suggests a very creamy & pigmented lip colour that applies very smoothly & is fairly long lasting.
Their signature B is carved into the bullet and the end of the packaging has a curved lipstick-wand shape, making it look different & interesting compared to other brands as well as the gray rubber. The only way to know the colour from the outside from the label on the bottom.
Rhone is a darker wine colour, and typically I had to have something almost identical to it, Kate by Rimmel in 09 as you will see in comparison swatches. Looking back at the different colours, I'd love to try a vibrant purple!
FOTD with UD Naked 1 eyes, Nyx Peach blush & Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in Rhone
 High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate
This pencil is basically a lipstick but in a wind-able pencil form with the colour shown at the end of the stick so you can see easily which colour you've picked up.
The colour looks like a brighter red in the tube but turns out to be very blue based on the lips, it is a lot more similar to Rhone than what I thought it would be, but not as glossy.
In the lip swatch below I have applied it over the top of lip balm that I really should have blotted before. I found that it lasted well until I had something to eat, and then it disappeared almost immediately, leaving only a little bit of a stain behind. Obviously if you take the right steps such as blotting lip balm beforehand, lining with a pencil and then using a lip brush (the head is small but not defined enough for a precise lip line), and even setting lightly with a powder, it should last bit more decently.
Eyes from UD Naked 1 palette, cheeks are L.A Girl Nectar, Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil Pomegranate
 Comparisons
As I mentioned above, almost every time I order something online, when I get it I know I have a similar colour straight away.
L-R: Kate by Rimmel in 09,Bite Beauty Rhone, Bite Beauty Pomegranate, Maybelline Are You Red-Dy, Nyx Amsterdam
Kate 09 is slightly darker but a very similar colour to Rhone, Are You Red-Dy has more orange tones and Amsterdam has a similar blue tone to Pomegranate.

Both the Luminious Creme Lipstick & High Pigment Pencil's retail for AU$36.95 online from Kleinsperfumery, The Iconic & also from Sephora(and instore) if you are in the US for US$24 but I bought mine on sale for $21 so if you are a lip junkie wanting to try a new brand I'd recommend to wait until a sale pops up.

Overall these lip products are pretty good but not a necessity to have in your collection, but if you want to try a different brand the Bite Beauty range has different types of lip products that may suit you.

No Affiliation with any of the websites mentioned, except for an invitation link to Ozsale. All products bought with my own money & are my own opinion.

Rebel With A Cause

April 26, 2013 0
Rebel With A Cause
I hope everybody had a lovely ANZACS day yesterday, well to those who celebrated. It has started to feel like summer again, which I will appreciate before winter comes! Ugh some "bad" news, I have started to develop a sty underneath my eye, I'm going to avoid makeup in that area but hope it goes away soon!

So I've had MAC's Rebel for a while now and I've used it a couple of times but nothing that I've really felt the urge to post. It's also a colour I've found hard to use, thanks for accidental over lip lining. I've found one way that I really like to wear it, as a stain, and I would really like to start wearing it more frequently in the cooler months.

Stained

~Products
Face: Rimmel Wake Me Up & Bourjois Healthy Mix
Nars Laguna Bronzer, MAC CCB Pearl MAC Lightscapade
Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink
Eyes: MAC Painterly
All eyeshadow by Inglot unless otherwise noted:
P 420- Lid
UD Buck- Crease
DS 460-Outer V
P 439 - Lower Lash Line
BYS Cream Eyeliner
Lips: MAC Rebel

I really like Rebel as a stain and I think it makes it look like a complete different product. It is also way more low maintenance and I don't have to worry about getting it on my teeth/ face haha.

Heavier

Face: The same foundation/ contour & highlight combo as above
MAC Blush in Her Blooming Cheek
Eyes: MAC Painterly
All shadows by Stila in the light: Kitten- lid
Bliss- Crease
Sandstone-Outer V
Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner
Lips:  MAC Rebel

I think I do need to outline just outside my lips as they make them look too small in proportion to my face... but it is so easy to over do it! As you can see in the example below.
Also I really like this blush/ lip combo for something more dramatic... I think they are both in the same colour family so they compliment each other without being OTT. Also, I think it sort of matches my hair!

To line or not to line?

Face: Same bronzer & highlighter as before, blush is Bourjois blush pot in #16 (I think, I can't quite remember! Ahh)
Eyes: MAC Painterly paint pot
Mary Kate & Ashley xall over shimmer in honey-light sandy colour, first inner of lid
Inglot 460 D.S- rest of lid
" "      465 D.S- Dark Brown, outer half of lid & crease
Bourjois Eyeliner
Lips: Nyx Lip Liner in Bloom, Guess the lip colour :P -
Ignore the bad lip-lining! Now my lips look waay too big & fake, dontcha think? I need to find the fine line between too little & too much!

Do you have this colour? How would you wear it?

Lip Inventory 4: Nudes

April 22, 2013 0
Lip Inventory 4: Nudes
This post has been the longest time coming! But here we are for the 4th installment of my lipstick collection, nude lipsticks. As this has been a while in the making I may have bought a few new ones since I've put together these pictures. I think my lip colour will be forever growing so it would be impossible to keep this properly updated.

Here are all my current nude lipsticks. Most of them look very similar and some are varying shades of nude that probably push the boundaries, but what the hey.

L-R. MAC Hue, MAC Myth, Nyx Black Label Lipstick in Nude, Revlon Lip Butter in Creamsicle, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Smoked Peach, Revlon Matte Lipstick in Nude Attitude, MUG Shy, BYS Champagne Rain, Nyx Round Lipstick Summer Rain, Nyx Round Lipstick Iris

Hue is a pink based nude, very creamy and can go on quite sheer if you prefer that look.

A light beige colour that is also extremely creamy, can you see the digs on the side of the bullet? It happens a lot to heaps of my lipsticks it is so frustrating. I find it sits on top of my lips so I have to use my fingers otherwise it settles in the lines but sits on top elsewhere, does that make sense? I also need to use a slightly darker blended lip liner otherwise it makes my lips look too stark or something.
This lipstick is so similar to Myth, however it is probably a bit more peachy, but it could still be a dupe. Still very creamy & opaque, but I find it doesn't last too long.

A sheer & moisturizing formula, this is a milky-pink nude.

This is not a typical nude but it is a matte formula and as the name suggests is peach toned & perfect for smoky eyes. I haven't noticed this being extremely drying.
A matte true nude lip colour that is extremely opaque & perfect if you're after a muted lip colour.
A MLBB with mauve undertones, nice with a light pink lipgloss over the top.
This is the first nude lip colour I have ever bought (that is the end of the bullet right there) and I even bought a backup ages ago but took that out and lost it (typically it had to be the new one -.-). But I always thought this was similar to Hue, it is a pinky nude that is so creamy so I should swatch them side by side to have a closer look.

Summer love is brown toned which in turn makes me look a little bit corpsy, similar to MAC's Honeylove which is another post. So not a fave, will probably swap away.

Iris is a frosty light peachy-nude colour that I am not a fan of on it's own but it is pretty over the top of a matte nude colour such as Nude Attitude.

My favourites out of all of these nude colours would probably be Revlon Lip Butter in Creamsicle, MAC Hue & Revlon Matte Nude Attitude for the perfect nude lips. However I don't think I have found my HG nude lipstick yet.

Stay tuned for my Berry/ Purple inventory coming up which will still probably be far away yet as I have to force myself to do lip swatch after lip swatch.
